A consultant of the Department of Primary Education (DPE) Kayanza has been detained following allegations of engaging in sexual misconduct with a third year student of the Technical School of Kayanza (ETESEC), who was majoring in Management Informatics. . This incident, which is reported to have taken place at ETESEC, occurred in the morning of November 18, 2023.
The consultant, whose role is usually to guide and support educational initiatives, is now facing serious legal consequences for of his actions. The Kayanza Prosecutor's Office not only confirmed the imprisonment of the consultant but also revealed the imprisonment of a woman linked to the case. Described as the mentor's former lover, the woman is accused of playing the role of a mediator, allegedly facilitating the relationship between the mentor and the student.
Justice was served quickly when the Kayanza High Court delivered its judgment on November 26, 2023.
For his association with the student, the counselor was sentenced to 15 years in prison and fined 2 million Burundian francs (Fbu). In addition, one of the participants in the case has been sentenced to 7 years in prison, with the victim’s parents also having to be paid a 3 million Fbu compensation fee.
