A rock collapse in the Cherek region of Kabardino-Balkaria has resulted in the loss of one life and injuries to five others.
The incident occurred in the early hours of the morning on Mount Dykh-Tau, at an altitude of 3500 meters, leaving the mountaineering community and the entire region in shock.The dire news was confirmed by Aliy Anaev, the director of the Bezengi mountaineering camp, who conveyed the details of the unfortunate event.
The collapse, which took place around 2 AM, caught two separate groups of climbers and tourists from St. Petersburg off guard as they were nestled near the campsite. This sudden and unexpected rockfall unleashed tragedy, leaving one person dead and five individuals injured, according to preliminary information.
Rescue efforts were immediately launched in response to the catastrophe. A team of six skilled rescuers from the Ministry of Emergency Situations for Russia swiftly embarked on a mission to aid the victims. Additionally, there was consideration given to employing aviation assistance in the rescue operation.
