Three West African states, Mali, Burkina Faso and Niger, have decided to form an alliance to provide collective security and assistance to each other. This was announced by the leader of the transition period of Mali, Colonel Assimi Goita, on the social network X (formerly Twitter) in French lingual in the evening hours of Saturday, 16th.
This literally translates for ;
I signed today with the Heads of State of Burkina Faso and Niger the Liptako-Gourma Charter establishing the Sahel States Alliance (AES), with the aim of establishing a collective defense and mutual assistance framework for the benefit of our populations.
Rebel Leaders in Niger Demand French Troop Departure
The rebels who pulled off a military coup in Niger have some demands. And guess what? One of them involves France! 🇫🇷
What's the Gossip?
So, word on the dusty desert streets is that these rebels are asking France to create a little to-do list. What's on that list, you ask? Well, they want a schedule—a kind of itinerary, if you will—for when France's troops will pack their bags and say au revoir to Niger. 🗒️✈️
Why the Rush?
Well, it seems like there's a bit of a "political impasse" going on between Niger and France. Picture this: Niger and France are like two neighbors arguing about who gets to mow the lawn, and neither wants to give in. 🏡🍃
What's Next?
The rebels are pretty serious about this troop withdrawal thing. If this feud continues, France might just have to say, "Fine, we're outta here!" 🚁 And where are they going, you ask? Well, they could hitch a ride through Benin, and from there, it's anyone's guess. Maybe they'll head back to France 🌍👜
