An ongoing encounter between security forces and militants has entered its second day in a village within Rajouri district. In the interest of public safety, local police have issued an advisory advising residents to stay at least two kilometers away from the conflict zone.
The operation was initiated when an unidentified terrorist was killed on August 5 during a cordon-and-search operation led by the police and the Army in Gundha-Khawas village, situated in the Budhal area. A police official stated that a confrontation between the two parties was underway as per the most recent updates.
Security reinforcements have effectively sealed off potential escape routes for the militants, and efforts are underway to neutralize the threat posed by them, the official noted. The search operation was set into motion following intelligence indicating the presence of militants in the vicinity.
Initially launched by a modest police team, the operation gained support from additional personnel from the Army and the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), forming a combined effort to address the situation. However, as of now, the body of the deceased terrorist has yet to be recovered from the encounter site.
Local authorities have taken steps to ensure the safety of civilians. A police advisory issued on Sunday urged individuals to avoid the encounter area to prevent potential harm. The advisory message read, "In light of ongoing operations involving crossfire in the general vicinity of village Gundha, Khawas, all individuals are hereby informed to refrain from approaching the area. It is strongly advised to maintain a safe distance of at least two kilometers from the perimeter of the operation."
