Former Lostprophets lead singer Ian Watkins, currently serving a 29-year sentence for child sex offences, has reportedly been subjected to an attack within the confines of HMP Wakefield. The incident, in which Watkins was stabbed, was confirmed by The Mirror newspaper. The prison service has revealed that the authorities are collaborating with the police to investigate the event, which occured on Saturday.
A spokesperson from the prison service has disclosed that they are refraining from providing further details due to the ongoing police investigation. Watkins, notorious for a series of child sex offences that culminated in his imprisonment in December 2013, including the disturbing attempted rape of an infant, has since been maintaining a low profile behind bars.
The convicted singer's sentence includes a 29-year incarceration term along with an additional six-year period on license. However, Watkins may become eligible for parole upon completing two-thirds of his prison sentence. In his heyday, Watkins gained prominence as a rock sensation in his twenties, amassing millions of albums sold worldwide and amassing enthusiastic arena crowds.
Emerging on the music scene in 1997, the Welsh rock band Lostprophets, led by Watkins, achieved notable success, releasing a total of five studio albums. Their accomplishments include securing a number one album in the UK, coupled with two Top 10 singles. They also garnered recognition in the United States, where their second and third albums managed to penetrate the Top 40 music charts.
